A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
August 19, 2009
Dear Friends of the Foundation:
Thank you for the role you play in providing services to those who suffer from kidney disease in the state of California.
The Kidney Foundation of California was formed over 30 years ago to assist patients on dialysis. Our funds primarily assist patients with prescriptions, food supplements and transportation services. Upon the request of clinic social workers and dietitians, we provide financial assistance to help patients purchase items they would otherwise be unable to afford. We have also assisted patients with eyeglasses, hearing aids, blood pressure cuffs and emergency living expenses.
From 2005 to 2009, the Kidney Foundation of California filled 22, 412 patient requests in the amount of $1,407, 866.
Since our conception, the interest on our investments has allowed us to fund this patient assistance program. However, due to the recent economic recession, our investment return has decreased and the number of patients requesting assistance has increased. We are currently embarking upon a fund-raising campaign so that we can continue to assist patients in need. If you choose to make a contribution, please consider the following:
- $500 provides 10 patients with one month of transportation to dialysis
- $1,000 provides 20 patients with one month of food supplements
- $1,500 provides 10 patients with one month of medication
Hopefully, the Kidney Foundation of California will be around to help dialysis patients for many more years to come. Thank you for your interest in our mission and your dedication to the people we serve.
Sincerely,
Maureen McKinley, LCSW
President of the Board
